Necromancers are very powerful early in the game (until about Plane of Dragons), but they become relatively worse later in the game. Completing the Caster's Guild quest gives the Necromancer access to Fireblade v2's to give his pet. A Necromancer pet with Fireblade v2's can easily solo Plane of Time and QVic. For this reason, it might not be a bad idea to start your EZServer experience with a necromancer in your crew.

What to expect from Necromancers on EZServer (2023):

The Mana Necklace for a Necromancer is akin to the ninjastrike augments to a Monk or Rogue on EZ. You don't have to get one, but it's rather silly not do to so. They are also one of three classes (along with Magician and Enchanter) that can do the Summoner's Pack quest, which allows their pet to equip an Ultimate Weapon.
+
Necromancers are damage dealers. Once you get close to the top tiers, Necromancers are currently quite a bit lower on damage compared to the other casters (Magician, Wizard and Enchanter). They used to be popular in Tier 10 (Sunderock Springs) due to the ability to use their Death spells along with  Epidemic, which threw their various top rank DoTs on a target and Epidemic had those DoTs spread to all surrounding NPCs. This made for a good mass pull and quick kill strategy if you had a few Necromancers. Today the focus has shifted more towards fighting less NPCs at the time, so the Necromancers current DoTs and the ability to spread them is just not very effective anymore. Perhaps we will see a filler damage spell in the future to make up for less effective DoTs. Currently an end game Necromancers deals most of it's damage from Idol of the Jailed from Veeshan's Peak.

However, later you will need to change your approach to make a necro competitive dps. Necromancers have the ability to earn the 'Death' spells by visiting the Roaming Gnome in the Caster's Guild. He will give you a task based around your level to help you unlock the ranks of 'Death'. This spell will cast four DoTs (Unholy Shackles, Insinuations of Mori, Kiss of Corath, and Hungering Pyre) matching the rank of 'Death' (i.e. Death II casts rank 2 of all four spells). In addition, if a player has not yet visited the Surefall 'Trainer' (Spells And Discs) to learn 'Epidemic' they need to do so. 'Epidemic' will spread any level 70 and above DoT to ALL nearby hostile NPCs. One could cast multiple ranks of 'Death' and then pop 'Epidemic' to create a disgusting wave of sickness to all nearby NPCs.

While on paper this makes for some powerful AE dots, in practice, in a box team, the necros are still fairly limited, unless you find specific circumstances. The only way necros shine for AE dps with the above method is, as Hate stated, to stack multiple ranks of 'Death' with epidemic on larger pulls. However, unless you either pull a very high hitpoint mob along with the mass numbers of trash, or have a very, very low DPS team you will barely have time to land 'Epidemic' and even one rank of 'Death' before the mob dies. Even so the necro doesnt have much time to do a lot of AE dps before any mob you can mass pull will die. However, this may change with newer content, or as the game is tweaked.
+
Their Epic augment can summon a pet, which like the Mages pet is really awful damage wise, unless you choose to get your Ultimate Weapon and Summoner's Pack, in which case the pets damage will increase by many millions. Their pet can however tank quite effectively, just like the Beastlord, Magician and Enchanter pets. If you plan on making several Necromancers and want to utilize their Death line spells, you need to finish a Quest and pick up Spell: Epidemic from the Intelligence spells trailer NPC in Surefall Glade.

June 2023: In general we have a lot of different spells and effects on EZServer. Some have been updated recently and some have not. While new spells and effects are added, they may have stacking issues with older content. As a general note, you should test stuff on the Practice Dummy yourself if you are unsure what gives you the best damage. Per June 2023 there are some issues you should be aware of involving Angryface Familiar, Mana Necklace, Brunaa's Two Toned Diamond Neckguard and Darkstone, Neckguard of Revenge. So what does this mean for you? If you have Angryface Familiar and use the buff, you don't need to get/use your Mana Necklace XII, as it will not improve your damage, rather just make it lower. However, if you have Brunaa's Two Toned Diamond Neckguard or Darkstone, Neckguard of Revenge, you should not use Angryface Familiar, as it will lower your potential spell damage.

The bottom line is necros can be viable, but this viability is dependant on specific circumstances. Still, if you arent into min/max and enjoy some variety they can be a fun class to add!

Dark Elf Female Necromancer with Ultimate Armor using a Ultimate Great Staff XI

What to expect from Necromancers on EZServer (2023):
