Mostly because they can use Ninjastrike augments, Rangers can do high single target DPS. For this reason they are a decent choice to use in your main group. They also have access to a group buff that slightly increases the damage done by your group, and have access to a few damaging spells.
On EQLive, Rangers used their range attacks as their primary source of DPS, on EZServer they simply melee like every other DPS class.

- Epic can be changed between Melee to Bow Epic Augment using a Ranger Epic Modification Element + Epic Augment in a Magic Box.
